How to prepare classic ceremonial cacao?

It is generally assumed that a serving of ceremonial cacao should contain from 36 to 50 g of paste. However, it is advisable to start your cacao journey with slightly smaller doses, such as 20 g. This will also allow you to observe your body’s reaction to the bioactive substances in a somewhat less intense manner. Ceremonial doses (i.e., up to 50 g) are best consumed 1-3 times a week. If you plan to consume the ceremonial drink more frequently, the amount of paste in a single serving can be reduced.

To prepare ceremonial cacao you will need the following ingredients:

  • 40 g of cacao,
  • 150 ml of a plant-based drink,
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut sugar (can be substituted with maple syrup, agave syrup, date syrup, or not sweetened at all),
  • a pinch of salt and cayenne pepper (salt enhances the chocolatey flavor of the drink, while capsaicin activates the bioingredients and facilitates their absorption).

Preparation:

  1. Heat the plant-based drink to a maximum of 40-50 degrees Celsius, also adding salt and a pinch of cayenne pepper or other aromatic spices.
  2. Add the appropriate amount of cacao paste, and after a moment, blend or add pre-chopped cacao. Using a blender is also the best method to crush hard cacao and achieve a wonderful froth. Voilà, the drink is ready!

The beverage prepared in this way is thick, sweetish, and creamy. It’s worth noting that the deep flavor and aroma of chocolate guarantee incredibly pleasant taste sensations!

Cacao should be sipped slowly, allowing you to savor the flavor and open up to new experiences. It is also worth dedicating this time to listen to yourself, your emotions, and the relationships with people who are especially close to you.

What should be avoided when preparing ceremonial cacao?

  1. Cow’s milk or other animal milk.
  2. Refined sugar.
  3. Rushing!
